Senior VHP officials told media persons on Sunday that a team of 250 VHP members had met 400 lawmakers from different political parties in the past two weeks for this purpose.

In the early hours of the day, life went on as normal in different parts of the city with school children and morning walkers taking to the streets and shops and businesses opening at their usual time. This year the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has decided against observing 'Shaurya Diwas'.

The Ramalaya Nyas is headed by Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati and Swami Avimukteshwaranand is its secretary. It said in the letter that it was formed in 1994 after the enactment of the Ayodhya Act, 1993, which stipulated that a trust be formed in the future for the construction of the temple. Since the VHP’s Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas was formed in 1985.

The Nirmohi Akhara, which SC said should be assigned “an appropriate role in the management” of the proposed trust, has sought an appointment with PM Modi to put forth its view. “We want achche se achcha (best possible) post in the trust – of the chairman or the secretary. We have sought a meeting with the PM,” Mahant Dinendra Das of the Akhara told ET.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad is set to felicitate the entire legal team that fought for Ayodhya case in the court that ultimately won themvictory to build Ram Lalla temple at the disputed site. The development comes as the Supreme Court asked the Centre to set up a trust within three months for the construction of the temple. Members of VHP’s Ayodhya unit told ET that the Centre could ask Mahant Nritya Gopal Das to be part of the trust.

RSS and its affiliate organisations are trying to bring akhara heads, seers and activists associated with the Ram mandir movement on the same page, to enable government to form a body of ‘like-minded people who are wellversed in the history of Ayodhya’.
