  • Vistara has been operating daily flights on the Delhi-Singapore and the Mumbai-Singapore routes since August 6 and August 7 respectively, using Boeing 737-800NG planes that were leased post the shutdown of Jet Airways in April this year. These planes can carry extra fuel and can fly one hour extra as compared to old A320neo planes.

Vistara airlines to start daily non-stop flights on Mumbai-Colombo route from November 25 onwards this year. Since August, the airline has started flights connecting India with Dubai, Bangkok and Singapore, now Colombo being the fourth destination.

Govt has shown willingness to exit Air India, as opposed to its earlier plan of retaining a minority 24%.

The Tata Group may consider bidding for Air India, an airline it once owned, whenever the govt finalises its sale. “Ideally, it is a Vistara decision. It is not a Tata Sons decision. I will ask the team to evaluate it," said the Tata group chief N Chandrasekaran. Acquisition of Air India would help the Tatas scale their aviation business.

The Delhi-based airline had in August this year extended its codeshare pact with Singapore Airlines and its regional arm SilkAir to international routes as well besides for domestic flights, which is in place since 2017.

Along with the engine order, the airline has also signed a long-term rate per flight hour agreement for maintenance of the 120 Leap-1A engines which will power its 60 Airbus planes in service or on order.

A 15% holding for the Tatas would keep its effective stake in Delhi International Airport Ltd, the GAL unit that runs the airport in the national capital, below 10%. Tata, GIC & SSG Capital Management have agreed to invest Rs 8,500 crore in GAL.

The growth across the country is driven by increased demand from tier-I and tier-II cities where American Express Card members want to spend, the premium credit card and payment platform company said in a release.

With the govt powering ahead with its resolve to sell the airline, hectic efforts are on behind the scenes to pull it back from the brink, bring it to a manageable shape and then hand it over to a buyer who can turn it around.

With jet Airways no longer operating any flights, other airlines have come forward to fill up the winter slots occupied by the Jet till last year. Vistara has taken the lead followed by SpiceJet and AirAsia India in filling up the space.
