    Under the new strategy, Xiaomi, which has so far focussed mainly on the affordable segment to become India’s top smartphone brand, will launch a number of premium phones under the Mi brand. Besides, it will expand the smart TV range with big-screen premium products. The company may also look at launching its concept phone, Mi Max Alpha, in India and elsewhere.

    Industry watchers say wholesalers are holding back stocks of popular phone models in anticipation of a price rise by the month-end as production in China slows; brands as yet unaware of complaints.

    Shunwei Capital, which manages assets of about $3 billion and founded by Xiaomi founders Lei Jun and Tuck Lye Koh, has co-led a $5.5 million (about Rs 40 crore) investment round in regional language podcast app Kuku FM.
