  • In the face of mounting evidence, Iran on Saturday acknowledged that it shot down the Ukrainian jetliner by accident, killing all 176 people aboard.

    Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is set to hold a telephone call with Iran's president Hassan Rouhani after Tehran admitted it had mistakensly shot down the Ukraine airliner carrying 176 passengers on board. The airplane crashed shortly after take-off from Tehran on Wednesday.

    Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif offered condolences and "profound regrets" after the Iranian armed forces admitted unintentionally shooting down the Ukrainian airliner due to "human error". He took to his Twitter handle apologizing for the same and calling it "a sad day"

    UBHL and Mallya had appealed against the order to a division bench of the court. They had also sought a stay on the liquidation of assets till a final adjudication on the issue. The matter has been pending before the High Court.

    All 176 people on board died when Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 went down near Tehran on Wednesday, shortly after Iran launched missiles at US forces in Iraq in response to the killing of a top Iranian general in a US drone strike in Baghdad.

The airliner could have been mistaken for a threat, said four U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

    The US National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday it will join the probe into the Ukrainian Boeing airliner which went down in Iran. The plane, a US-made Boeing 737, went down minutes after takeoff from Tehran, and shortly after Iran had fired missiles at military bases in Iraq housing US troops.

    Iran called on Canada to share intelligence about the Ukrainian airliner that crashed outside Tehran was mistakenly downed by an Iranian missile. Upon allegations by US and London tallied with Canada on accidental drowning of the plane while launching ballistic missile at US military targets, Iran invited Boeing to take part in the official enquiry
