  • Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court which had on Friday directed the state government to preserve the bodies of four accused till 8 PM on December 9 will take up the matter for hearing on Monday.

    The city's police force, which historically gives lower crowd turnout figures, told local media 183,000 people attended at the peak, still one of their highest estimates in months. Many of the black-clad attendees voiced anger and frustration that chief executive Carrie Lam and Beijing have ruled out any further concessions despite the landslide election defeat.

    The team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) visited Chattanpalli village, about 50 kms from here, where the alleged encounter took place. A short distance away the victim's charred body was found after she was allegedly gang-raped, smothered and set afire on the night of November 27.

    The NHRC took cognisance of the encounter killings of the four accused in the case and ordered a probe on Friday. The apex human rights body in the country had said the encounter was a matter of concern and needed to be investigated carefully.

    UP Police's post comes in the middle of national furore over the burning of a 23-year old rape victim survivor in Unnao on Thursday as well another act of brutal relentlessness coming to light from Chitrakoot where a dancer was shot at in a wedding after she stopped dancing for the guests.

    "The commission is of the opinion that this matter is required to be probed very carefully. Accordingly, it has asked its Director General (Investigation) to immediately send a team for a fact-finding, on-the-spot investigation into the matter," the NHRC said.

    The law, signed last Wednesday by President Donald Trump, mandates sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials who carry out human rights abuses and requires an annual review of the favorable trade status that Washington grants Hong Kong. The legislation was backed by US lawmakers who are sympathetic to the protesters and have criticised Hong Kong police.

    The US House of Representatives on Tuesday passed the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act, which among other things, proposes that America redirects resources to address the mass internment of over 1,000,000 Uyghurs and other Muslim ethnic minorities in China.

    On May 20, WhatsApp reported an incident to country's cyber security watchdog Cert-In, stating that it had identified and promptly fixed a vulnerability that could enable an attacker to insert and execute code on mobile devices. WhatsApp also told CERT-In that the vulnerability could no longer be exploited to carry out attacks.

    The report titled 'Aid Program Performance report 2018-19 on Pakistan' said Pakistan bilateral aid programme will be reduced to 19 million Australian dollars in 2019-20, and will fully phase out during 2020-21. Pakistan is one of the poorest countries in Asia and was placed 150 out of 178 nations on the most recent United Nations Human Development Index.
