The government will build sand dunes on 20 km of shoreline in Uttara Kannada district to protect beaches from rising sea levels, flooding, erosion and encroachment and to provide a wider beach for visitors for recreation, according to officials in the Public Works Ports and Inland Water Transport Department (PWC&WT).
