  • India will put into orbit another of its sharp-eyed surveillance satellite RISAT-2BR1 with synthetic aperture radar on December 11, an Indian space agency official said on Tuesday.

NASA released an image taken by its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) that showed the site of the spacecraft's impact (September 6 in India and September 7 in the US) and associated debris field, with parts scattered over almost two dozen locations spanning several kilometers.

"We are also making an effort in this direction by developing a mechanism for the minute detailing of the forestation at the (given) geo-coordinates and monitoring of growth of the planted saplings, with the use of satellite. Twelve crore saplings were planted in last five years. Data on the growth of these saplings will be available in public domain. We are developing a mechanism of their inspection through satellite," Javadekar said.

The American satellites are piggy backing on the rocket's main luggage, India's advanced earth observation satellite Cartosat-3. Till date India with its PSLV rocket has put into orbit 297 foreign satellites. When the PSLV rocket on Wednesday puts into orbit 13 American nano satellites then the total number of foreign satellites that India has launched will touch 310.

The launch will enhance India's ability in high-resolution imaging and also reinforce India as a global launch destination for small satellites using its workhorse rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. According to the ISRO 2018-19 annual report, the CARTOSAT 3 is a 3-axis agile satellite with a spatial resolution parameter of 0.25 m.

Police said since revocation of special status of Kashmir, militants have attempted to take advantage of communication blockade to enter Srinagar.

CARTOSAT-3 is a third generation agile advanced satellite having high resolution imaging capability.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman RS Sharma rued that cost of data in India delivered via satellite technology was 400 times higher than that in the US.

With Indian Space Research Organisation's (Isro's) newly formed commercial arm NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) taking over the satellite launch contract business, the space agency's old commercial wing Antrix Corporation has now changed its priorities and is now focusing on manufacturing space systems and promoting industry's role in the sector.

The space agency has planned for the launch of CARTOSAT-3 satellite, ninth in the series, from the second launch pad at spaceport of Sriharikota, about 120kms from here on November 27 at 09.28 am. PSLV-C47 on its 49th mission would carry CARTOSAT-3 along with 13 commercial nano satellites from the United States.

According to ISRO Chief K Sivan, CARTOSAT-3 was the most complex and advanced earth observation satellite ever built by the space agency. He congratulated and complimented the launch vehicle and satellite teams involved in Wednesday's misison.
