  • The space agency has planned for the launch of CARTOSAT-3 satellite, ninth in the series, from the second launch pad at spaceport of Sriharikota, about 120kms from here on November 27 at 09.28 am.     The workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, on its 50th mission, PSLV-C48, is scheduled to lift off from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, about 130 km from here at 3.25 PM on Wednesday, the Indian Space Research Organisation said.

    The satellites would be launched by India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C47into Sun Synchronous Orbit from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The launch is tentatively scheduled at 09:28 hrs IST on November 25, 2019 subject to weather conditions.

    "Another crucial test was successfully conducted at the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground from 22:41 to 22:48 on December 13," a spokesman for the North's National Academy of Defence Science said in a statement. The announcement comes after the United States tested a medium-range ballistic missile over the Pacific Ocean on Thursday.

    With Indian Space Research Organisation's (Isro's) newly formed commercial arm NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) taking over the satellite launch contract business, the space agency's old commercial wing Antrix Corporation has now changed its priorities and is now focusing on manufacturing space systems and promoting industry's role in the sector.

    Indigenously developed, NAVIC is an autonomous regional satellite navigation system that provides accurate real-time positioning and timing services. As per the NDAA 2020, approved by a bicameral conference report, the NAVIC system of India would be treated as “allied system” at par with the Galileo system of the European Union and QZSS of Japan.

    India has earmarked over Rs 10,000 crore for the human space flight mission, which has been in the works for nearly two decades. It moved to mission mode with tight deadlines after PM Narendra Modi turned the spotlight on the programme in his Independence Day address to the nation in 2018.

    Coal India has used services of satellites for monitoring land reclamation and reforestation. Satellite-based pollution monitoring system exists only at the NASA in the US. Coal India subsidiary, CMPDI, has taken up the project for satellitebased monitoring of respirable particulate matter and it is under implementation at Singrauli and Talcher coalfields.

    According to ISRO Chief K Sivan, CARTOSAT-3 was the most complex and advanced earth observation satellite ever built by the space agency. He congratulated and complimented the launch vehicle and satellite teams involved in Wednesday's misison.

    Through this agreement, Leaf Space will provide the support service up to one pass per orbit to the satellite in SSO, demonstrating capabilities of its mid-latitude distributed ground station network. Uplink and downlink service for the mission will be provided using VHF, UHF and S-Band frequencies. The satellite is set to be launched in July '20.
