    The petition included the demands such as immediate relief to stranded workers for ferrying them safely to their homes, food to be made available to all, ensure wages to all for entire lockdown period and cash transfer of Rs 7,500 to non-income tax paying households, including unorganized labour force for at least three months to June.

    Chairman of the panel and senior Congress leader Anand Sharma has convened a meeting of the panel on June 3, and notices have been sent to all members as well as the Union home secretary, sources said.

    They have sought cash incentives and free rail tickets for workers, along with cash benefit of Rs 7,500 per month for three months for non-income tax paying families, to help them tide over the financial crunch. Ten trade unions collectively raised these demands in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.

    The clause, which defines as ‘strike’ even an event of at least 50% of employees of a unit proceeding on “concerted casual leave” on a particular day, should be renegotiated, the committee suggested to stakeholders in industrial units including the management, trade unions and representatives of the labour department.

    The unions have further requested PM to ensure that migrant workers are not charged anything for being transported by the government.

    The country has registered 175 deaths and a record 7,466 fresh coronavirus infection cases in the last 24 hrs till Friday 8 am, according to the Union Health Ministry.
