The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has set a target of August 15, 2018 to transform itself into an electronic, paper-free organisation. It said this in a circulation issued on February 27.

To achieve this the EPFO has taken various administrative and technical initiatives in this direction. Among other things, in another circular issued on the same day, it has mandated that online claims have to be filed for provident fund withdrawals above Rs 10 lakh. It also said that filing online claims for withdrawals of above Rs 5 lakh under the Employees Pension Scheme 1995, is now a must.

Here are some other initiatives proposed by the EPFO in order to its meet its digitisation target by Independence Day. These have to be carried out by all its Field Offices.

(i) It is proposed to have a campaign for going paper-free during the next two months, namely, March and April, 2018. During this period, focus will be on verifying Aadhaar for the members so that all claims are received online avoiding submission of paper-claims. Establishments may be mandated to get all the claims of employees filled through the online mode.

(ii) Form 9 of members are to be made online with proper approval according to the instructions already issued in this regard.

(iii) All e-Court cases will be processed through completely electronic filing system avoiding physical files.

(iv) e-Office software implementation and processing of administrative files in the electronic format will be completed in all the offices.

"All Zonal and Regional Offices are advised to take earnest action in achieving paper-free office as well as default-free EPFO system. The focus on enrolment also needs to be kept up to achieve the mandate of social security to all," the circular stated.

It is also proposed to recognize the efforts of field offices in achieving the paper-free electronic office targets. Accordingly, three Regional Offices which achieve more than 90 percent claims being received through the online process will be given suitable prizes.

All offices are advised to achieve the above targets with proper co-ordination and team effort. All ACCs will provide leadership and requisite support to Field Offices to implement these targets.

"EPFO is getting ready with customer friendly facilities to serve the tech savvy young generation of workers. Database has been updated up to the mark and growing use of e-services will streamline hiccups of transforming the benefit delivery mechanisms in times to come," the circular stated.

Over the years EPFO has taken several steps to make PF claims settlement process smoother. Going ahead, if EPFO does achieve its digitisation aim, it will especially meet the needs of the younger generation who are always on the go.
