The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) in some cities in the country. These centers will provide Aadhaar-related services like new enrolment, address update, name update, date of birth updates, etc. Currently, these services are provided by UIDAI in select banks, post offices, and in government offices.

The UIDAI has started Aadhaar Seva Kendra services in Delhi, Chennai, Bhopal, Agra, Hisar, Vijayawada and Chandigarh. According to a UIDAI press release, Bhopal, Chennai, Patna and Guwahati ASKs will most probably become operational by the first week of September.

Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO, UIDAI said, "UIDAI is planning to open 114 such centres in 53 cities across the country for providing hassle-free Aadhaar enrolment and update services for people with prior appointment. UIDAI intends to complete set up of all the 114 ASKs by the end of the year 2019."

According to UIDAI's press release, the ASKs will have 8-16 enrolment counters, 40-80 seated waiting areas and electronic token system. Any resident can take an online advance appointment and visit at their convenience.

The functioning of ASKs is similar to Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) where you can book an online appointment to avail several passport related services.

For availing various Aadhaar-related services, you need to first visit UIDAI's website. New Aadhaar card applicants, as well as existing holders, can book appointments at an ASK for the following services:

  • Fresh Aadhaar enrolment
  • Name update

Step 2: Now, under the header - 'Book an appointment at UIDAI run Aadhaar Seva Kendra', select the 'City/Location'. After that, click on 'Proceed to book an Appointment'.

Step 3: Once you have selected the 'City/Location', you will be redirected to a new page. You will then have to select from the Aadhaar services options available on the page. The options are 'New Aadhaar', 'Aadhaar Update', or 'Manage Appointment'.

Step 4: For instance, if you have selected the 'Aadhaar Update' option and have entered the registered mobile number, captcha code and generated valid OTP (one-time password), you will have to verify your application by typing the OTP in the space provided on the web page. You can verify your new mobile number in case you are applying for a 'New Aadhaar'.

Step 5: On successful OTP verification, you will have to fill a detailed online form. This mainly includes filling of appointment details, personal details, selecting the time slot and reviewing all details.

Step 6: After filling appointment details, personal details, you need to select the time slot (as shown below) for booking the appointment.

Step 7: Check your appointment details and if you find any discrepancy, you can click on 'Previous' tab and rectify the mistakes, if the details are correct then click on 'Submit' to complete the online booking of your appointment.

You need to book an appointment by choosing a particular date and time slot. According to a UIDAI release, these ASKs to have a capacity to handle up to 1,000 enrolments and update requests every day. ASKs will be open for six days a week including weekends from 9:30 am to 6 pm. It will be closed on Tuesdays and public holidays.

The online appointment booking process is free of cost. However, according to a UIDAI release, the ASKs have a token system where the resident first gets a token for their Aadhaar related work and then moves to a 'verifier' for document checking. Once the verification is completed, the resident has to move to the 'cash counter' for payment of Rs 50 (charges for Aadhaar update, if required) and is then assigned an 'operator counter' from the 16 operator work stations.

The token movement is visible via digital display screens for easy movement and queue management. A resident who has been provided with a token will not have to stand in long queues as they can sit and wait for their turn in the waiting area.
