After applying for an Aadhaar card at an enrolment centre, it takes up to 90 days for generation of Aadhaar. This is as per the FAQ section of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website.

You can check the status of your Aadhaar card on the UIDAI website. To check the Aadhaar status, you must keep your acknowledgement slip handy, which you will get at the time of enrolment.

Remember, if you have mentioned your mobile number while applying for Aadhaar card, then the UIDAI will send you an SMS once your Aadhaar is generated.

Here is a step-by-step guide to check the same.

On the UIDAI's website
Step 1: Visit
Step 2: On the website, under the tab, 'My Aadhaar', click on 'check Aadhaar status'

Via UIDAI's helpline
Apart from checking on the website, there is another method to check the status of your Aadhaar.

After enrolment, you can call the UIDAI's helpline on 1947 and follow the instructions. Keep your enrolment ID handy as you will be required to input the same.

Once your Aadhaar is generated, the helpline allows you to write down your Aadhaar number. After writing the Aadhaar number, you can download the same from the UIDAI website.

If you lose your acknowledgement slip
In case you have lost your acknowledgement slip, you can retrieve the 28-digit acknowledgement number and check the status of your Aadhaar card.

This is how you can retrieve your lost acknowledgement number:

Step 1: Visit
Step 2: On the website, in the 'My Aadhaar' tab and select 'Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID'.
